Research reflects that addressing life changing events and acute behavioral changes can increase our overall health. Therefore, it is equally vital that we acknowledge our triggers and identify the core of our angst, to better provide us with an opportunity to address our emotional health as we would a physical ailment. Like any other healthcare need, there are various costs involved when seeking therapeutic services and/or interventions.
To buffer the cost, it is advisable to investigate possible benefits that are available to you via your work place such as flex spending accounts, Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), and other third party insurance policies. It is just as important to budget for healthcare costs to avoid creating additional anxiety which can be created by financial stressors.
Taking the following steps may assist you with the cost:
If using your insurance, contact your carrier and inquire about the cost for both in- network providers, as well as, out-of-network benefits (in the case we don’t accept your specific insurance). However, we can supply documentation you can use to request reimbursement of a percentage of your fees from your carrier. Co-payments are not always equivalent to your primary physician visits co-pay. There is one thing in favor of the consumer, recent health care laws require insurance companies to incorporate within their plans, comprehensive mental health services, which in most cases requires the plans to cover sessions at 100%.
Inquire about the number of sessions, and/or whether you must first meet a deductible based on your chosen benefit plan.
Inquire whether a prior authorization is needed before out-patient sessions can commence.
Inquire whether your concerns are eligible for EAP or use of flexible spending funds.
Be clear about your expected co-pay, which may be different from your medical co-payments.
