Work/Life Balance Programs- Employee Assistance Programs

EAP services are not just to provide care for mental injuries sustained during a mass tragedy, but also to assist your family with work/life balance concerns.  The services are FREE to most employees as a work life benefit. Based on whether you have engaged a self referral for services, or you have been prompted by your management team to address productivity issues, there may be a requirement for the EAP vendor (not the counselor) to report back specific information to your agency. Please inquire about the requirements surrounding confidentiality beforehand.

EAP is different from traditional therapy, as the interventions are brief- and the purpose is to assess and refer your family and you for continued support for concerns that may be impacting both your personal and professional lives. However, you CAN choose to remain with the same counselor in most cases should you decide to engage a longer duration of therapy. The subject matters that can be addressed varies- from grief/loss, to the deterioration of a relationship, to concerns surrounding substance use. When in doubt- ASK for clarification.

In some cases, companies use INTERNAL EAPs (embedded within the agency). Other agencies and businesses, use EXTERNAL EAPs (contracted vendors) to provide services. When asking your agency about your eligibility for services, also inquire about the type of EAP, along with the specific services available. All EAP programs are not equal. The number of free sessions vary between 3-10 sessions, depending upon your agency/company's contract with the EAP vendor.

The number of FREE visits allowed per family- varies, so please be sure to ask your agency about the duration of service. Most agencies allow up to 6 visits to allow for an adequate assessment and/or brief treatment.  There are circumstances in which additional visits may be approved. Beyond the EAP service, you can choose to utilize your insurance benefit to continue treatment with the therapist of your choice, at which time you may be responsible for a co-payment.

We no longer accept EAP for couple/marital counseling sessions, or for pre-marital counseling.
